Extinct is Forever - Penguin Conservation Button/Magnet
While general pollution, overfishing, climate change and coastal development all contribute to the decline of penguin species and their endangerment, oil spills are considered to be one of the biggest problems for penguins. Because they cannot fly and they must surface frequently for air when swimming, these animals can't avoid being coated with the oil that rests on the surface of the ocean. It becomes ingested and long term exposure causes embryo death and birth defects in chick penguins.
