Before Lady Diana there was Eva Peron (1919–1952). She was the second wife of Argentine President Juan Perón (1895–1974) and was affectionately known by the public as "Evita". Adored by the people for her work on behalf of labour and womens rights, as well as establishing foundations to aid the impoverished, she was given the official title of "Spiritual Leader of the Nation" by the Argentine Congress shortly before her death from cancer at the age of 33. Later, a stage play and film (starring Madonna) were made about her life.
